We launched with our first release, behind my eyes - the debut solo EP from co-founder Lalin St. Juste - and quickly expanded our reach through curated performances, alternative community events, and vision-aligned partnerships. Highlights from our early programming include The Afters (a Noise Pop afterparty spotlighting local Black queer DJs) and The Cookout (in collaboration with Motion Collective), which centered a vibrant mix of queer Black artistry created by and for our community.
In 2022, we hit major milestones: launching sanctuary spaces at events for folks to reconnect with spirit, signing a distribution deal with Vydia, releasing original music and remixes, and deepening community engagement through Gardens of Alchemy Radio on Lower Grand Radio. We also brought Gardens of Alchemy into real-time with live activations - springtime gatherings featuring earth tending, a free store, free food, and live performances.
By 2023, 7000COILS continued to evolve as a hub for healing and artistic expression. We hosted Rage x Reiki, a break room and energetic transfusion curated to contain and transmute collective grief, and produced VANGUARDEN, a daytime festival amplifying Black queer voices. That year also saw the launch of the Homebodies artist residency, further Gardens of Alchemy activations, and international solidarity efforts like the Jamaica Solidarity Excursion, connecting Black queer and trans folks in the Bay with a queer land project in Jamaica.
In 2024, our work continued with the curation of White Crate’s WC04 at El Rio, uplifting queer Black drag artists, vocalists, and DJs. We collaborated with the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute on Healing the Lakou in New York, and co-hosted bi-weekly coworking sessions with Freedom Community Clinic. Our Sacred Sessions sound bath series invited BIPOC communities to heal through garden-based rituals, while Sacred Echoes - a collaboration with Amara T. Smith - combined sound and movement for collective restoration. We also co-organized Artists Against Genocide, a film screening and discussion on Congo in partnership with Original Blackprint, a teach-in on Sudan, and other urgent community-driven activations.
